The Story of How Lammes Candies Got Started
Lammes Candies was founded in 1885 after William Lamme first lost the company in a poker game and his son swooped in to save the day by reclaiming the store. Back in those days, the Lammes Candies store on South Congress avenue was a popular destination to both satisfy sweet whims and pick up sweet gifs alike.
Customers would come from all over Texas to peruse the candy displays and select their confections. Lammes Candies was, and still is, the premier confectionery in Texas and the first confectionery in all of the South. A big part of what made Lammes Candies a fantastic gift then remains today: a company philosophy anchored in exceptional customer service.
Even though the shopping options looked a little different back then, Lammes Candies would ship gifts from the storefront and it was common for people to request that friends "pick them up a box" of Lammes Candies if they were passing through the Capitol. Gifting Lammes Candies was so popular, that the store sold gift postcards (postcard front featured above). Customers would purchase the postcards when they were in store and they would drop them in the mail to let their loved ones know that sweet treat was coming their way.
