Visit a Lammes Candies Store in Austin

In this day and age, shopping online is often the fastest, most convenient way to get goods delivered straight to your front door. We can get anything and everything delivered now from new clothes to groceries and even cars. Convenience aside, sometimes there’s a yearning to leisurely stroll shopping in pursuit of that treasured gem. For Texas customers, Lammes offers four convenient Austin locations. In this blog post, we invite you to stop in next time you’re cruising central Texas.

As you might know by now, Lammes Candies started off as a sheek, high-end candy shop on South Congress Boulevard. In time, we expanded to offer many Texas locations and eventually added the ability to shop online at our 24/7 online store which reaches all corners of our fine nation and beyond. Even with the increased popularity of online shopping, Lammes Candies still offers four storefronts in the Greater Austin Area. We invite each and every customer passing through Austin, to stop by and say hello. In the stores, we offer exclusive products, and, of course, the same exceptional customer service that remains the cornerstone of Lammes Candies.

For those looking to hit the black asphalt and see the beautiful American landscape, head down to Mile Marker 235 on I-35 and you will find yourself in the heart of Austin, Texas, home of none other than Lammes Candies.

If you have been wanting to go to Austin, we will give you the perfect excuse to create your own little weekend getaway. Austin is the heart of Texas. Of course everyone knows we are the state capital, but we also are the live music capital of the world, cook up some of the best BBQ and Tacos, are home to the UT Longhorns, and home to our very own beloved Lammes Candies Since 1885. If you live in or near Austin, you already are quite aware of the hype surrounding Austin. However, sometimes when we have amazing things right in front of us we fail to see how wonderful they truly are. So whether you live in or near Austin or want to plan an epic road trip to my favorite city here are some must dos to add to your list.

Getting to Austin

In Texas, it sometimes seems like all roads lead to Austin, but we like to say all roads lead to Lammes Candies. North, South, East, or West we guarantee a roadtrip to the heart of Texas will be a good time. I’m from a small town in Eastern Arkansas and I recall my first time driving down to Austin with my mom. I had just accepted a teaching job in Austin, without ever visiting so we needed to drive down to scope out the city and determine what area I would live in. We hit the interstate in early Spring in Arkansas passing through freshly tilled fields and white oaks getting new leaf life. As we dipped down to the Southwest corner of Arkansas more pine trees loomed over the route, shortly after that we were in Texas going through small towns that dotted the map. We made it through what my mom calls a spider web of roads intersecting around Dallas and were due South. We noticed less trees, more small brush, and flat, dry landscape. After 9.5 hours on the road, we rolled into Austin passing neon signs, a larger than life couch with potatoes lounging on it, as well as the UT football stadium. 9.5 hours, 2 states later, and my mom’s frantic grasping of the “grab handle” in the car, we made it to Austin, Texas. I will spare you the details of our first time in Austin, but it was an experience we will never forget and laugh about still to this day. Which is why making memories on road trips and visiting new or old places is such an enjoyable endeavor. I have done quite a few road trips both in the United States and in Europe and in my personal opinion, 10 hours is the sweet spot for the total number of hours to drive in a day. You get a long day’s worth of driving in and make great mileage to your destination. Here is a list of some cities that are less than 10 hours away from Austin. This would be perfect for you to come and make the drive for a little weekend trip to visit and of course check out Lammes Candies!

Ideal Weekend

For some people, planning the trip is a source of excitement and for others it is their worst nightmare. Whichever category you fall in or between, we are here to help you with your trip. One big factor in planning is what time of year to come. My favorite time is always to road trip during the fall. I love the fresh, crisp air that fall has to offer and being able to catch a football game at a bar in whatever town I am visiting. However, Austin is also great in the summer if you are wanting to spend some time in the water. Barton Springs is a 3 acre pool fed from multiple freshwater springs and the water is consistently a cool 68-70 degrees, perfect for jumping into when those summer days are in the triple digits. Whichever time of year you love, make sure to check out these spots in the city.

Stroll up and down South Congress. Grab a coffee and snag a picture with the iconic “I love you so much” mural at Jo’s Coffee and then go try on a pair of Tecovas or pick your favorite piece of jewelry out at Kendra Scott. Grab a bite to eat at Guero’s or June’s and catch some live music at the Continental Club or listen to some vinyl records at Equipment Room.

On Saturday, grab some breakfast tacos at Taco Deli and then hit up the Farmers Market. Head to Lammes Candies to pick out delectable treats for you and your loved ones back home. My personal favorite location is on Airport Blvd with the giant red and white striped candy cane outside. More details below on my personal favorite treats at Lammes. Afterwards, head to Barton Springs to cool off or head to catch some sports either at UT or Austin FC. If you are interested in nightlife, check out East 6th street for chill vibes and delicious cocktails and breweries.

End your weekend with brunch if you have time or if you are short on time, stop by one of the many specialty coffee shops in town. Check out Paperboy or Better Half for brunch or swing by Palomino or Radio for coffee.
